Controlling Exposure

On our trip to the demolition site of where the old library used to be, we took some images but some were not that great. I was some what upset with myself as some of these images were the ones I really liked, so I seek advice as to what might have gone wrong, and my tutor explained to me it was my aperture that needed to increase. If you notice around the edges and especially to the left of the picture, it's blown out quite a bit and the bit that is more visible is more or less overexposed but not as much as that of the left hand side.

This image was shot in more or less the same lighting conditions, but this is a more well focused image; all the details are easily visible, the building can be easily differentiated from the sky itself. This is a testimony that I have improved in the control of the camera. The more time I spend using the camera, I have no doubt that this will help me to improve my skills.
